Verse 1

Mark 2:1

This event follows a successful preaching tour in the synagogues of Galilee Mark 1:38-39

Capernaum ... Matthew calls Capernaum "his own city".

Noised ... that Jesus was in the house, Matthew 18:20; Hebrews 10:25; Luke 5:17

Some had come a distance; they especially crowed around the doors.

Verse 2

Mark 2:2

preached the word -- Mark 1:22; John 7:46 "Never man spak like ..." 2 Timothy 4:2

Preachers today should pledge to "preach the Word."

There’s a time for preaching and a time for action.

Verse 3

Mark 2:3

borne of four ... When there is a problem, come to Jesus!

1) A picture of Christians bring sin-sick to Jesus Luke 19:10;

2) This suggests cooperation is often needed; the links in the chain - individual-home-church;

3) Each one has a corner to carry.

borne by four ... How to carry your corner - -

1. Cheerfully

2. Bravely

3. Steadily

4. Prayerfully Ephesians 6:18-19

Verse 4

Mark 2:4

See sermon "Carry Your Part of the Load" mark 2:1-12

uncovered the roof ... We see a faith that laughed at barriers.

A barrier at the door -- crowded, no parking?!

Barrier of the roof is conquered!

Does your faith surrender, or courageously deals with barriers?

Verse 5

Mark 2:5

sins be forgiven ... Blessings of Forgiveness

1.Jesus’ words were a scandal among the scribes.

2.God granted the man more than was expected.

3.Implies Jesus understood his heart and penitence - John 2:25

4.Forgiveness is a divine prerogative - Mark 2:7

5.Jesus did not fear controversy

Verse 9

Mark 2:9

take up your bed ...

1. Nothing was left undone

2. It will be obedient people in heaven - Matthew 7:21; Hebrews 5:9

Verse 10

the Son of man -- The first occurrance of this disnigation on the book of Mark. See notes at Matthew 8:20 and Luke 5:24.

Verse 12

Mark 2:12

took up his bed ... Nothing left undonw. It is obedience people that will be found in heaven, Matthew 7:21; Hebrews 5:9

went before them ... became an example of forgiveness before others - 1 4:12; Matthew 5:16

all amazed ... 1) we are surprised by some who will come to Christ. 2) we are amazed what the power of God can do - the transformation; (surprised to see Saul preaching Jesus - Acts 9:20-21; 3) Will people be surprised to see "you" in heaven?

glorified God -- The changed life brought glory to God’s name. Is your life glorifing God?

Lord also of the Sabbath ... The Sabbath is the Lord’s day, even as all othr days of the week! He is Lord of them all!
