1Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came unto Berseba and offered offerings unto the God of his father Isaac.
2And God said unto Israel in a vision by night, and called unto him: Jacob, Jacob. And he answered: here am I.
3And he said: I am that mighty God of thy father, fear not to go down into Egypt. For I will make of thee there a great people.
4I will go down with thee into Egypt, and I will also bring thee up again, and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.
5And Jacob rose up from Berseba. And the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their children and their wives in the chariots which Pharao had sent to carry him.
6And they took their cattle and the goods which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt: both Jacob and all his seed with him,
7his sons and his sons' sons with him: his daughters and his sons daughters and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.
8These are the names of the children of Israel which came into Egypt, both Jacob and his sons: Ruben Jacob's first son.
9The children of Ruben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron and Charmi.
10The children of Simeon: Jemuel, Jami, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar and Saul the son of a Cananitish woman.
11The children of Levi: Gerson, Kahath and Merari.
12The children of Juda: Er, Onan, Sela, Pharez and Zerah, but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The children of Pharez, Hezron, and Hamul.
13The children of Isachar: Tola, Phua, Job and Semnon.
14The children of Zabulon: Sered, Elon and Jaheleel.
15These be the children of Lea which she bare unto Jacob in Mesopotamia with his daughter Dina. All these souls of his sons and daughters make thirty and six.(.xxx. and .iij.)
16The children of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Suni, Ezbon, Eri Arodi and Areli.
17The children of Asser: Jemna, Jesua, Jesui, Bria and Serah their sister. And the children of Bria were Heber and Malchiel.
18These are the children of Silpha whom Laban gave to Lea his daughter. And these she bare unto Jacob in number sixteen souls.
19The children of Rahel Jacob's wife: Joseph and Ben Jamin.
20And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were borne: Manasses and Ephraim which Asnath the daughter of Putiphar priest of On bare unto him.
21The children of Ben Jamin: Bela, Becher, Asbel, Gera, Naeman, Ehi, Ros, Mupim, Hupim and Ard.
22These are the children of Rahel which were born unto Jacob: fourteen souls altogether.
23The children of Dan: Husim.
24The children Nepthali: Jahezeel, Guni, Jezer and Sillem.
25These are the sons of Bilha which Laban gave unto Rahel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob, altogether seven souls.
26All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt which came out of his loins (beside his son's wives) were all together sixty and six souls.
27And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt were: two souls. So that all the souls of the house of Jacob which came into Egypt are seventy.
28And he sent Juda before him unto Joseph that the way might be shewed him unto Gosan, and they came into the land of Gosan.
29And Joseph made ready his chariot and went against(to meet) Israel his father unto Gosan, and presented himself unto him, and fell on his neck and wept upon his neck a good while.
30And Israel said unto Joseph: Now I am content to die, insomuch I have seen thee, that thou art yet alive.
31And Joseph said unto his brethren and unto his father's house: I will go and shew Pharao and tell him: that my brethren and my father's house which were in the land of Canaan are come unto me,
32and how they are shepherds (for they were men of cattle) and they have brought their sheep and their oxen and all that they have with them.
33If Pharao call you and ask you what your occupation is,
34say: thy servants have been occupied about cattle, from our childhood unto this time: both we and our fathers, that ye may dwell in the land of Gosan. For an abomination unto the Egyptians are all that feed sheep.(For the Egyptians abhor all shepherds.)
